Follow-ups are time-sensitive reminders, calls, demos, or review tasks linked to either a lead deal or an individual contact. They ensure that team members never miss an opportunity to engage a client.

Entity distinctions

Automate CRM separates follow-ups by parent entity to support distinct sales and customer success workflows:
  • Lead follow-ups (lead-followups): Associated with deals in progress. Created with lead_id. Used for demo calls, contract proposals, negotiations, and closing check-ins.
  • Contact follow-ups (contact-followups): Associated with individuals. Created with contact_id. Used for relationship reviews, onboarding follow-ups, and support satisfaction checks.

Key fields and lifecycle

  • Due date (due_date): ISO 8601 timestamp specifying when the action is required.
  • Reminder timestamp (reminder_at): Optional notification timestamp before the due date.
  • Status transitions: Follow-ups move through pending, completed, or cancelled statuses.
  • Assignment: Tasks can be delegated to specific team members using their user identifier (assigned_to).
